Catholic Charities is doubling its current Warming Center capacity by building/remodeling a new location in downtown La Crosse. Due to the extremely cold average temperatures of the 2013/2014 winter season, Catholic Charities was forced to turn away nearly 300 people because of overcrowding.
The new Warming Center is being built in a nearly 150 year old vacant building previously occupied by Schneider Heating & Air Conditioning. In addition to the overnight warming center capacity of 35 people, a food pantry, laundry room, kitchen, showers, and office space are all part of the construction plan. The expected move-in date is November 1, 2014.
